Sithonia

Sithonia

Sithonia is the middle one of the famous Halkidiki peninsulas. Its hills are heavily wooded with pine forests reaching the pristine watersand has a coastline with wide variety of fishing ports, secluded inlets and attractive coves. The beaches here are of incredible beauty. It’s less developed than Kassandra while thefertile land, covered with olive groves, vineyards and citrus orchardsproduces grapes, olives and honey.

The west coast of Sithonia is more commercialised, including nice beaches and busy yacht marinas. The coastal strip between Nea Moudania and Nikiti is where the main resorts lie with Porto Karras being the most famous. The eastern coastline of Sithonia is wilder but closely spotted with magnificent bays. Offshore breezes often create good conditions for windsurfers while for the rest of visitors there are plenty of sheltered coves with shallow waters.

The resorts of Sithonia have their own unique character. Nikiti has preserved traditional stone houses nestled among the pine trees. It also has a marina, a couple of churches of 19th century, ruins of a 16th century chapel with frescoes, a folklore museum and several prehistoric settlements in the surrounding hills. Agios Nikolaos is a traditional hill village of 19th century with cobbled streets and many stone houses with impressive wooden balconies, surrounded by olive and citrus groves. Vourvourou, a popular holiday spot on the east coast, has an astonishingly beautiful bay with turquoise waters hosting nine lush islets that create a magnificent sight. Porto Koufo is a fishing village with wild and rocky landscape and the biggest and safest natural harbour in northern Greece. Neos Marmaras perhaps is the most popular holiday resorts in Sithonia with a lively town center and harbour. On a hillside 7 km from N. Marmaras lies the charming old village of Parthenon, with its narrow streets and well preserved buildings. Porto Karras, one of the most famous hotel complexes of Halkidiki, offers to visitors private facilities such as big yacht marina, theatre, sports centre, shopping area, vineyards, bars and restaurants, an 18-hole golf course with artificial lakes while part of its grounds is nature reserve, offering to guests a high quality enviroment for rest. Toroni’s big attraction is the 2 km long golden beach while the village dates back to the 8th century BC with several archaeological sites in the area.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
